Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever

Even a little untruth ruins a man, as a drop of poison ruins milk

Man is the image of his thoughts.

Man can move mountains by faith.

Are not birth and death, perhaps, the two sies of the same coin? You find death on one side and birth on the other. Where then in this the cause for sorrow or joy?

He who is truly cleanwithin, cannot remain unclean without"

Our happiness and peace of mind lie in our doing what we regard as right and proper, not in doing what others say or do

Those who have the greatest measure of self-control or are most absorbed in work, speak the least. Speech and action go ill together. Look at Nature. She is continuously in action, never rests for a single moment, yet is mute.

An important matter loses importance, if irrelevant. Arelevant thing, though small, is of the highestimportance.

If we allow our minds to brood over the vastness of the task before us, we shall get confused and accomplish nothing. Whereas if we cooly get to grips with it, we shll find that even a mountain of work will diminish day by day and vanish

Just as only others can see our back while we ourselves cannot, similarly we cannot see our own errors.

Pride swwallows up a mancompletely. The truh of this can realized by everyone at every moment. On the other hand, modesty and humanity nourish man and make of growth

He who wants to please all, will please none"

To think good thoughs is one thing, to act upon them is another"

We seek the company of the good, for that is the food for our soul.

Realization of Truth is not at all possible with out Ahimsa (Non-violence). That is why it has been said that Ahimsa is the supreme Dharma (Law).

The quest of Truth and the observance of non-violence are imporssible without Brahmacharya (celibacy), non-stealing, non-possession, fearlessness, equal respectfor all religions, removal of untouchability, and thelike.

Brahmacharya here means control over the sense-organs in thought, word and deed. He shall not be deemed a true Brahmachari who, although he may be living a chaste life as a married man, otherwise harbours impurity of mind.

There is only one way of achieving independence throughnon-violence : by make we live; by killing, never.

What is patience? Shankaracharya says: “Sit by the seashore and take one drop of water on a blade of grass. If you have enough patience and there is a place nearby wherein that drop can be stored, you may in time empty the ocean of all its water.” This is an illustration ofalmost perfect patience.

He who has not in him the quality of infinite patience, cannot observe non-violence.

What a high degree of non-violence is needed to bear

patiently with a person who is bent on misunderstanding even the simplest thing!

A man does not become a Satyagrahi by styling himself assuch. The observance of pure Truth alone makes him aSatyagrahi.

There can be no such thing as rights for a Satyagrahi. For him there is only one right-the right to serve.

Therefore, the Satyagrahi will never seek rights; thesewill come to him unsought.

How can one believe in Truth if one has no belief innon-violence? If non-violence is not put into practice,Truth, too, cannot be.

Why would one who is capable of violence for gaining his ends, hesitate to resort to untruth in both speech andaction?

Non-violence, truth. Etc., are self-luminous. They can not be genuine otherwise.

Religion is not religion, if it expects others to follow suit. For example, the religion of Ahimsa (non-violence) can manifest itself only in the face of Himsa (violence).

There is a limit to violent action and it can fail. Non-violence knows no limit and it never fails.

Violence is the weapon of the weak; non-violence that of the strong.

In complete non-violence, there is a complete absence of hatred.

Non-violence works for the good of all, not only of the greatest number. The votary of non-violence must beprepared, if necessary, to lay down his life in order tosecure the good of all.

Violence must be abjured, for the good that it may seem to achieve is in appearance only, while the harm that itdoes is everlasting.

That which looks for mercy from an apponent is not non-violence.

Man finds himself by losing his self.

He who is not in the habit of keeping everything in its place, is a fool. He wastes a lot of time in searchingfor a thing when he wants it.

Says Nanak again: “Whatever you give away is yours;whatever you keep is not yours.”

He who finds faults with others cannot see his own.

When we give anything, we must give the truest part ofourselves.

The more experience I gather, the more I realize that man himself is the cause of his happiness as well as hismisery.

You serve him for whom you work; not to whom you pay lip service only.

He who wants to please all, will please none.

It is said that a pilgrimage is not undertaken at the cost of one’s home and hearth. The truth, however, is that a pilgrimage is possible only after a complete renunciation of home and hearth.

What greater meanness can there be than to seek out our good points and praise them to others?

There is greater pleasure in not eating than in eating.Who has not experienced the truth of it?

He who concentrates on any one thing with singleness of purpose, will ultimately acquire the capacity to do everyting.

To see nothing but faults of others is even meaner than praising one’s own virtues.

Why seek outside that which is within you?

The experience is daily growing upon me that everything is possible of realization through silence.

Debts are redeemed by deeds, not by words.

A calculating mind cannot attain self-realization.

Slavery to the surrounding atmosphere dulls a man’smind.

To think good thoughts is one thing; to act upon them is another.

What seems impossible is not always really so.

One mark of non-attachment is that the work of a non-attached person is never in arrears at the end of theday.

There is a vast difference between obstinacy and steadfastness. To Seek to foist one’s view on others is

obstinacy; whereas steadfastness is that whereby we voluntarily impose something on ourselves and which results in bringing others round to the acceptance of our view of their own free will.

How is it that a precept which is thought proper for others is not regarded as equally proper for oneself?

Man can smile away his sorrows; by crying, he only multiplies them.

Man cannot worship God and at the same time despise his fellow-beings. The two are irreconcilable.
