วัดเเขก
ชื่อของ วัดพระศรีมหาอุมาเทวี นั้น บ่งบอกให้เราได้รู้ถึงนิกายที่ผู้ก่อตั้งนับถือว่าเป็น นิกายศักติ คือ นับถือเทพสตรี (มหาเทวี) เป็นหลัก เทพสตรีอย่าง พระศรีมหาอุมาเทวี หรือที่เราเรียกกันสั้นๆ ว่า พระแม่อุมา หรือ เจ้าแม่อุมา นั้น เป็นพระมเหสีของ พระอิศวร หรือ พระศิวะ ถือได้ว่าเมื่อยามที่พระองค์ทรงเสวยร่างเป็นเจ้าแม่อุมา จะเป็นเจ้าแห่งความเมตตากรุณา และงามสง่า ดังนั้นผู้มีจิตศรัทธาจึงนิยมไปกราบไหว้บูชา และขอพรมากมาย
ที่วัดแขกนี้ นอกจากจะมีองค์พระประธานเป็นพระแม่อุมา ซึ่งมีผู้คนมากราบไหว้ขอพรมากมายแล้ว ที่วัดนี้ยังเป็นที่ประดิษฐานของ พระพิฆเนศ อีกด้วย รวมทั้งมหาเทพ และมหาเทวีองค์อื่นๆ ในศาสนาฮินดูอีกมากมาย ทั้ง พระพรหม พระวิษณุ พระขันทกุมาร พระแม่ลักษมี พระแม่สุรัสวดี ฯลฯ
สถาปัตยกรรมของวัดเป็นศิลปะโบราณของ อินเดียตอนใต้ ผสมผสานกัน ระหว่างสมัยโชละและปาลวะ ซึ่งจะพบในเทวาลัยทางอินเดียตอนใต้โดยเฉพาะใน รัฐทมิลนาดู ภายในมีองค์ พระแม่ศรีมหามารีอัมมัน (พระแม่อุมา) ประดิษฐาน เป็น เทพประธานอยู่กลางโบสถ์ แวดล้อมด้วยพระพิฆเนศ พระขันธ์กุมาร พระศิวะ พระกฤษณะ พระวิษณุ พระแม่รัศมี และพระแม่กาลี บริเวณกลางลานเทวสถานมีเทวาลัยขนาดเล็ก ภายในเป็นที่ประดิษฐาน ศิวลึงค์
วัดแขก เดิมเป็นสถานที่เฉพาะ ของผู้นับถือศาสนาฮินดูเท่านั้น ในช่วงบ่ายจะมีการปิดโบสถ์ เพื่ออ่านรามเกียรติ์ เป็นการสรรเสริญพระเป็นเจ้า แต่ในปัจจุบัน วัดแขกเปิดกว้างต้อนรับผู้คนมากขึ้น ทั้งผู้มีจิตศรัทธาองค์เทพต่างๆ ตลอดจนยินดีต้อนรับผู้นับถือศาสนาอื่นๆ รวมทั้งนักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติ
ในช่วง 1-9 ค่ำเดือน 11 ของทุกๆปี (หากคำนวนเป็นวันที่จะอยู่ช่วงเดือนตุลาคม) จะมีพิธี "นวราตรี" เพื่อบูชาพระแม่อุมาเทวีครั้งยิ่งใหญ่ เป็นพิธีที่เก่าแก่สืบเนื่องมาตั้งแต่สมัยพระเวท มีพิธีบูชารวม 10 วัน 10 คืน พร้อมกันทั่วโลก และในวันสุดท้ายของงาน จะมีการอัญเชิญองค์เทวรูปพระแม่อุมาเทวี และเทวรูปองค์อื่นๆ ออกมาแห่ไปนอกวัดทั่วทั้งสีลม โดยขบวนแห่จะตั้งขบวน ที่บริเวณหน้าวัดพระศรีมหาอุมาเทวี ฝั่งถนนปั้น เลี้ยวขวาออกถนนสีลม เลี้ยวกลับแยกเตโชกลับเข้าถนนปั้น ถนนสาทรเหนือ ถนนสุรศักดิ์ออกสีลมกลับสู่พระอุโบสถเป็นอันเสร็จพิธี โดยแต่ละปี จะมีผู้ศรัทธาเข้าร่วมชมงานเป็นจำนวนหลายพันคน
