10Saturday Night Fever
Till Saturday Night Fever, disco was considered as mere kitsch but John Travolta and his dancing shoes provided us all with enough reason to participate in the new fever and to dance. And of course for ‘Stayin’ Alive!’

9Sound of Music
Let’s start from the very beginning! With drama, romance and a solid star cast, this movie might still have been a success but the original songs of the movie have propelled it into history. Who cannot help seek comfort in ‘My Favorite Things’ or can resist the playfulness of ‘I am sixteen, going on seventeen’?

8Grease
While you might find a multitude of John Travolta fans that still cannot watch Grease, the soundtracks are still like an anthem to them. You are going to listen to Olivia Newton-John crooning ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ for a long time to come.

7O Brother Where Art Thou?
Suddenly amidst all the contemporary modern sounds, you come across this movie with highly original, bluegrassy theme to its music. With equal contributions from newcomers and industry veterans, the heartfelt rendition of ‘Man of Constant Sorrow‘ is bound to move you.

6The Graduate
The Graduate was of course all about introducing the innocent youth to a whole new world but it did so with its music as well. With ‘Scarborough Fair and ‘The Sound of Silence’, an entire new generation grew up listening to and revering the sounds of Simon and Garfunkel.

52001: A Space Odyssey
Stanley Kubrick married his twenty-first century, spectacularly imaginative science-fiction movie with beautifully reworked pieces of nineteenth century music, creating a musical masterpiece. Just listen to ‘The Blue Danube’ and you will never be able to listen to it without thinking of the wonders of outer space.

4Purple Rain
Despite the eccentricities in his personal life, no one can deny the musical genius that is Prince. These famous musical skills are brought to the fore in Purple Rain and so is his legendary showmanship. You can get a glimpse of his immense range from the funky ‘When Doves Cry’ to the ballad ‘Purple Rain’.

3The Dark Knight
Yes, was again another art rock bands that experimented with a lot of progressive music. Chris Squire? dynamic and melodic bass playing, in fact, contributed a lot to the popularity of this music. If Heath Ledger made evil come alive through his portrayal of ‘The Joker’, the menacing soundtrack seems to add an extra evil dimension to his character. Listen to ‘Why So Serious’ and you will see what a good job it does in introducing the character to you.

2The Godfather
You would expect the soundtrack of a movie like The Godfather to have a wham-wham quality to it. Instead you get one that is described as mournful by some and haunting by others. Used in almost all scenes that parody or pay homage to The Godfather, this single tune manages to capture the deep pathos in this family drama.

1A Hard Day’s Night
If it is surprising that an album should still be dominating the music world forty years after its release, all you need to do is study the phenomenal popularity of the opening guitar chord for ‘A Hard Day’s Night’. If ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ reflected the music of that time, ‘And I Love Her’ still manages to please us.
